Please join us in congratulating AMPT Center faculty member Chris Jermaine, Professor of Computer Science, who became interim Chair of Computer Science (the School of Engineering’s largest department) on July 1.  In that role Professor Jermaine succeeds his CS colleague Luay Nakhleh, who became Rice’s new Dean of Engineering on the same date.

Jermaine is also program director of Rice’s Data Science Initiative.  His expertise in machine learning is a key asset to the AMPT Center, and his active participation in AMPT (as with Professor Nakhleh’s appointment as Dean) is emblematic of Rice’s distinctive integration of computational and data-driven methods and technologies to solve engineering problems.

Jermaine will be one of the speakers in the 2nd annual AMPT Symposium on January 22.
