The AMPT Center is pleased to announce that the 2020 Resiliency Awards will be presented to five Rice Engineering graduate students:
- Nidish Narayanaa Balaji, Mechanical Engineering
- Victoria Granja, Mechanical Engineering
- Barclay Jumet, Mechanical Engineering
- Njideka (Syndi) Nnorom, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
- Faye Yap, Mechanical Engineering
Each student will receive an award of $1500, made possible by the support of AMPT Center corporate member ConocoPhillips (the world’s largest independent pure-play exploration and production company) and Rice Engineering Alumni (the university’s oldest alumni organization).
The 2020 Resiliency Awards recognize “Rice graduate students in AMPT-related fields who have demonstrated exceptional resilience in research in the face of challenges posed by COVID-19.” Nominations were submitted by AMPT Center faculty and reviewed confidentially by a three-person Selection Committee, consisting of:
- Sergio Kapusta, Professor in the Practice of Engineering Leadership, Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL), and Executive Director, Rice Energy & Natural Resources Initiative (ENRI).
- Carlo De Benardi, Additive Manufacturing Industry Lead, ConocoPhillips, and Chair, API 20S Task Force.
- Joanna Nathan, Manager of New Ventures, Johnson & Johnson Center for Device Innovation, and President-Elect, Rice Engineering Alumni.
Although the original call for nominations contemplated four awards, the Selection Committee was tremendously impressed by the nominations received and felt strongly that five awards should be given.
