Invitation

Located in the heart of one of the energy, medical, and manufacturing capitals of the world, the AMPT Center at Rice University is on pace to be the leading multi-disciplinary research center in the United States on the problems of:

  • advanced additive manufacturing
  • materials performance and characterization
  • tribology and tribomechadynamics
  • and the application of data, machine learning, and other innovative techniques to drive engineering solutions.

Eligibility

Membership in the AMPT Center is open to corporations, Federal laboratories and other organizations approved by Rice who agree to support the mission of the AMPT Center, to participate cooperatively in the work of the Center, and to pay the required membership dues.  Participatory interactions may include attendance at AMPT Center events, visits to the Rice campus by Member representatives, visits to Member facilities by AMPT Center faculty and students, and discussions at professional society meetings or conferences.  Members have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with AMPT faculty and research staff, including working with AMPT researchers on mutually agreed research projects, mentoring students, learning specialized techniques, and presenting special seminars.

Membership Program and Tiers

The AMPT Center offers a tiered membership structure with different levels of strategic direction and corresponding investment.  The following chart summarizes the AMPT membership tiers and benefits for 2021.  Additional details are provided in the AMPT Membership Program and Membership Form.  For ease of comparison, the more limited benefits of a traditional stand-alone, single-project research agreement are summarized alongside.

The benefits of each membership level apply while the organization is a Member at that level.  Membership dues, whether initial dues or renewals, are non-refundable.

Membership Application

The first formal step in becoming a Member is to complete a Membership Form  and send it to:

George Webb, AMPT Industry Liaison
George R. Brown School of Engineering – MS 363
Rice University

Membership becomes effective upon approval by Rice of the completed and signed Membership Form and receipt of applicable dues.

Member-Directed Research

for Standard and Executive Members

AMPT Members at the Standard and Executive levels have the opportunity to exclusively direct specific research projects.  The scope of work and other details of each such project are developed through consultation between the Member and the AMPT Center principal investigator and are specified in an AMPT Member Sponsored Research Agreement for that project.
