The Institute for Nonlinear Dynamics of Coupled Structures and Interfaces (ND-CSI) is a six week long graduate student research collaboration hosted by Rice University. This year, students will work in teams of four on four problems germane to interfacial mechanics: in situ measurements of the evolution of contact pressure in an interface under dynamic loading, nonlinear system identification of jointed structures with interacting modes, the effects of non-flat interfaces on system dynamics, and a comparison of nonlinear modal testing methods for nonlinear structures. For more information, contact Matthew Brake (brake at rice.edu) or visit the Mechadynamics Lab web page.
